☀Dawn Dew Mercurial - Research
Nicola Baratto
02.24
Together with the artist and film director Nicola Baratto and Landescape’s director and researcher Leonardo Ruvolo we landed in Morocco for a month research-based residency. Matter and memory blends in a very dense perspective.
Film director: Nicola Baratto
Curator: Leonardo Ruvolo
Associate researchers: Khial Nkhel, Foundation Dar Si Hmad
in person of Alia Belgsir and Jamila Bargach
Financed by the Italian Council and the Directorate-General
We visited Dar Si Hmad project on Boutmezguida - South West Morocco - founded by the anthropologist Jamila Bargach. The ecosystemic project works in the liminal space in between the technological implementation of regenerative practice in a landscape undergoing progressive desertification and knowledge-based activity to foster positive change.
“The Dar Si Hmad Foundation was founded in April 2010 in the city of Sidi Ifni, Morocco, by its co-founders, Dr. Aissa Derhem and Dr. Jamila Bargach. As a non-profit organization, the foundation promotes local culture and creates sustainable initiatives through education, integration, and the use of scientific ingenuity. Dar Si Hmad fosters intercultural exchange in southwestern Morocco through academic programs and research, engages in South-South partnerships, maintains relationships with various academic institutions, and prioritizes indigenous languages, cultures, histories, arts, and crafts.”
We went up to mount Boutmezguida to discover the fogcatcher technology and the fog arrived as a surprised. The dew point is the temperature at which the air becomes 100% saturated. At that point, the air condenses into water droplets, which we see as fog. The documents are part of Nicola Baratto research project “Dawn Dew Mercurial” curated by Landescape and its curator Leonardo Ruvolo in collaboration with @khial.nkhel and @darsihmad in person of Alia Belgsir and Jamila Bargach.
